How to obtain a Qualified Electronic Certificate?

Obtaining a qualified electronic certificate requires the identification of the holder and submission of the relevant documentation pertaining to the desired certificate type. Identity verification in person can be conducted through these methods:

Verification at the Registry Office (RA)

Upon signing a contract, the entity gains access to a platform that allows its employees to independently manage the issuance, renewal, or revocation of certificates. Designated qualified operators are responsible for in-person verification of the applicant’s identity and documentation.

In-Person Verification Point Centre

Upon signing the contract, the task of in-person verification is entrusted to the employees. All requests are channelled through the online platform and managed by Signaturit operators.

After approval, the certificates are issued within the IvSign central system associated with the specific user account. Qualified certificates are intended for individual use and cannot be transferred.

Difference between Qualified and Non-qualified e-Certificates

The primary distinction between qualified and non-qualified electronic certificates hinges on the presumption of legal validity. A qualified certificate benefits from this presumption, implying:

  • It holds the same weight as a handwritten signature.
  • In legal disputes, the validity of qualified certificates stands without the necessity for supplementary expert testimony.
  • The burden of proof shifts, placing the responsibility on the signatory to demonstrate the invalidity of the signature.
